Water levels are improving from recent rains. We expect reports to improve on the larger stocked rivers now that we have some water flowing once again. Keep an eye out for slick roads, especially up in the GW Forest in high elevations and on shady sides of the mountains. VDGIF has been busy over the past month stocking your favorite freestone streams and lakes. Stock up on crystal buggers, golden retrievers, kreelex, slump busters, and a variety of attractor nymph patterns in size for these VA managed streams.

The James, Shenandoah and New rivers seem to take weekly hits of torrential rain. This coming weekend may offer more of the same. The lake level was about even with the top of the dam.
Conway fished with Abe and John Longmire and together had 38 bluegills, 2 shellcrackers, 16 crappie, and a roach minnow. Crappie are also schooled around wood cover. The water was very high, and it probably would have been better to hike down from Skyline Drive. It was close, though. Every fly I tried worked.
